Overwatch Team Disbands
Today SkitLite can announce that our Overwatch roster have been released from their contracts early due to a mutual decision throughout the lineup to disband the team.
The split comes off the back of a disappointing result for the team at the latest Assembly LAN event where they had expected to do better themselves than what played out on the servers.
This lineup has been a part of SkitLite for over 8 months. SkitLite was the first Finnish organisation to sign an Overwatch team in what went on to be a fruitful partnership. The team secured many impressive results in officials such as ESL’s and GoSuGamers as well as winning the AOC MCS Masters and placing 2nd at Assembly Summer 2016.
Team Captain Veikka ‘Talisman’ Laine made a statement regarding the split:
“I am very thankful to SkitLite for seeing the promise in our team and picking us up back in June. We've had good and bad times as the team, but considering how the game has grown, us staying relevant has been an achievement. We've seen teams rise and fall one after another.
That said, I feel like we have been spinning our tires in the mud. We do good and get amazing results one day, and another we lose against lower tier teams, making everyone feel like it isn't worth it.
I wish everyone from my team good luck in the future and thank them for one of the best 9 months of my life, but all good things must end at one point.”
SkitLite CEO Matt Wright also thanked the team:
“I would like to say a huge thanks to all the guys for their hard work during their time in SkitLite. Overwatch is constantly changing and it takes a lot of dedication and commitment in order to be able to keep adjusting to those changes in the game. I wish every single one of the guys good luck in the future and I hope they continue to play competitively.”
From everyone here at SkitLite we wish the best of luck to the team and thank them for their services. It is not yet clear what the future holds with SkitLite & Overwatch. Updates to come.
